1. Dr. Sanjay Mehrotra - an introduction
Dr. Sanjay Mehrotra is a Professor of Industrial Engineering and Management Sciences at Northwestern University. He is married and has two children. Sanjay Mehrotra was initiated on the spiritual path in 1983 by Guru Hariharji Maharaj. Hariharji described himself as a disciple of Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilakji, and other lesser known Saints of North India. Before India’s independence Guruji was a freedom fighter and worked with Gandhiji and Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. After independence Guru Hariharji devoted his life spreading the message of Bhagavad Geeta, which culminated at the age of 101 with setting up of Geeta Dham in Tinwari, Jodhpur, India. Guruji, through his example, has inspired Sanjay Mehrotra to read, understand, and try to live the message of Bhagavad Geeta. Since his spiritual awakening in 1992, Sanjay Mehrotra has developed this understanding through a sequence of events, interactions, and visions. In this process he received the blessings and support of numerous living Saints and organizations. These include, but are not limited to, Gurumayi Chidvilasanand of Siddha Yoga, Mata Amritananda of Amritpuri, Dada Vaswani of Sadhu Vaswani Mission, Sathya Sai Baba of Prashanti Nilayam, Ramesh Babaji of Man Mandir Barsana Dham, Chinmaya Mission (Hinsdale, Chicago), Vivekananda Vedanta Society (Hyde Park, Chicago), and the Siddha Yoga center of Chicago. All of these Saints and places together with numerous others whose writings have enriched him, are acknowledged with respect and reverence. Above all, his wife Parina has truly acted as a spiritual partner (a Devi) in helping him grow on the spiritual path.
Although it was extremely difficult, much of the spiritual progress since his spiritual awakening was made while working full time as a Professor. Sanjay Mehrotra has published more than 40 research papers in the area of Mathematical Optimization, where he is internationally known for the development of a predictor-corrector method for solving such problems. He has been a principal or co-principal investigator on many research grants from National Science Foundation, Office of Naval Research, National Institute of Health, and the National Institute of Standards and Technology. He has given numerous international lectures and conducted symposiums at the Institute of Operations Research and Management Sciences, and Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics on these topics. He is the department editor of the optimization section of the journal, IIE-Transactions. He is also on the editorial board of the journals - Operations Research, Asia Pacific Journal of Operations Research, and the Journal of Modelling and Simulation. Professor Mehrotra has a M.S. in Industrial Engineering and a Ph.D. in Operations Research from Columbia University in 1987. He graduated from IIT-Roorkee in 1983 when he was only 19 years old. Sanjay has been on the faculty of Northwestern University since 1986.
Sanjay Mehrotra intends to spend rest of his life serving humanity through disseminating the message of Bhagavad Geeta by putting it into practice.
